Tense in Hadramawt and battles in Abyan ... mutual threats between the Yemeni army and the UAE-backed forces

On the one hand, the legitimate Yemeni government and the governor of Hadramawt exchanged, and the leadership of the Emirati-backed transitional council on the other hand, threatened to escalate the tense situation in Hadramout governorate and extend the ongoing battles in Abyan governorate to that governorate.

Ahmed Saeed bin Brik, the president of what is known as the National Assembly of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council, announced the inauguration of the so-called southern military resistance, starting tomorrow, Thursday, in the Hadramout Valley, in the governorates of Shabwa and Abyan, and any place where he described the terrorist elements of the Brotherhood.

Bin Brik pointed out that the announcement comes in response to the dispatch of leaders of these elements who supplied equipment from Sayyun (in Hadramout) to the city of Chakra (Abyan) to support the elements of "terrorism" there as he put it, referring to government forces that are engaged in confrontations with the forces of the UAE-backed Transitional Council.

Failing to respect the Riyadh agreement
in return, Yemeni Information Minister Muammar Al-Iryani said that the Yemeni government has made many concessions to the UAE-backed transitional council.

Al-Iryani explained that the government's concessions reached the signing of the Riyadh agreement, stressing that it is responsible to the agreement in order to spare Aden and its people any confrontations.

He added that the Transitional Council dealt with these concessions lightly and considered them a sign of weakness, and accused the Council of complicating the political, military and humanitarian scene.

Al-Iryani said that the transitional continued to implement unilateral steps, including declaring a state of emergency and self-management of the southern governorates, looting their revenues and escalating the situation in Socotra governorate.

The governor of Hadhramaut warns
from his side, the governor of Hadhramaut warned Faraj Al-Bahsni - in response to the transitional council organizing a show of his gunmen in the city of Mukalla, capital of Hadhramaut - against any military action outside the official institutions, noting that this does not serve Hadhramaut nor the supreme interests of the country.

Al-Bahsni said in an audio recording that any manifestations of a military force outside these institutions are unacceptable, and he emphasized that the military and security forces in the province are ordered by one commander, indicating that he issued directives to prevent any such gatherings.

In Abyan governorate, clashes renewed for the third consecutive day between government and NTC forces.

In the same context, MSF and medical sources in the hospitals of Aden and Abyan governorates reported the arrival of dozens of bodies and injured members of the two fighting parties.

The clashes in Abyan

Field sources in the Yemeni National Army confirmed that two people were killed in the army and ten of the Southern Transitional Council forces were killed, and more than 30 of the Council's forces were captured in the confrontations yesterday in Abyan.

Before the new round of clashes in Abyan, the President of the Southern Transitional Council, Aidarous al-Zubaidi, called on Tuesday from his headquarters in Abu Dhabi, the sons of the southern governorates, to take up arms and defend what he called the land of the south.

Continuing insurrection
The Yemeni Foreign Minister, Muhammad al-Hadrami, said that the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council is determined to continue its armed rebellion and undermine the work of state institutions, including disrupting the work of the Ministry of Health teams concerned with tackling the Corona virus in Aden.

In the context of recent field developments, Stephane Dujarric, a spokesman for the United Nations Secretary-General, said on Tuesday that the international organization is calling on all parties concerned in Yemen to stop fighting in the Abyan governorate, and warned that 31 aid programs might stop within weeks due to lack of funding.

The dispute between the transitional council and the legitimate government escalated during the past few days after the transitional announced self-management for the south, which the Yemeni government considered a new coup and in violation of the Riyadh agreement signed last November between the two parties under the supervision of Saudi Arabia, and it has not been implemented until this moment.
