In 9 out of 15 valley municipalities, there is a lack of special housing for the elderly. In many of the municipalities, there will be shortages over a longer period of time, and in others it is expected that shortages will occur later in the future. In five years, four municipalities expect to have a shortage of special housing for the elderly.

In Rättvik municipality, where the average age is highest in Dalarna, it is considered that there are enough special housing for the elderly at present. But the need will increase rapidly.

950 people are 80 plus

A study done a few years ago pointed to a need for around 100 special housing in 10-20 years.

- Today we have about 950 people who are over 80 in Rättvik, which will increase to 1,500 by 2030, says Fredrik Ollén (M).

"It's worrying in the future, staffing is the biggest challenge we have," he says.
