EXCLUSIVE

The coronavirus epidemic is still present in our country, with nearly 27,000 deaths since March 1 and the risk of a reconfiguration if the situation worsens in the coming weeks. But for now, the French seem to have regained morale, according to a BVA * survey for Europe 1 and Orange, the latest wave of which was published on Wednesday evening.

First, a number: 6.6. It is the average of the scores, from 0 to 10, that the respondents would attribute to their morale at the moment, 0 being synonymous with total depression and 10 with absolute happiness. This figure had never been reached since the start of the study on March 19, two days after the application of containment throughout the country. A week ago, Wednesday May 7, this average score did not exceed 6.3.

A well lived deconfinement

A second indicator shows a cheerful morale among the French: according to this survey, 83% of those questioned indeed declared that they lived the deconfinement very well (18%) or rather well (65%). Less than one in five French people who live quite badly (14%) or very badly (3%) the very partial lifting of restrictions.

But this survey also reveals weaknesses in public opinion. On the health situation, 76% of French people believe that a second wave of coronavirus will cause a new containment in the coming months. More than one in five French people (22%) even say they are certain of an upcoming restructuring. 77% of respondents still say they are afraid that they or a family member may catch the coronavirus.

Concerns about the economy

According to this wave, the French are therefore worried, even pessimistic: 40% of those questioned consider that "the worst is ahead of us", up two points compared to the poll published on Tuesday. The proportion of those who think that "the worst is behind us" crumbles by one point, to only 17%.

And while the economy is gradually starting up again, with the reopening of certain businesses, those surveyed are not reassured by the development of the situation: 59% of employees have confidence in the ability of their company to face the economic crisis which prevails, while 66% said they were reassured on this point, Monday.

* Continuous barometric survey carried out on the Internet, between May 11 and 13, with a representative sample of 1,000 French people aged 18 and over, using the quota method and the roll-up principle.
