It was Friday that the man was taken into custody by civilian dressed personnel from Säpo, following a family outing in Örebro. Now he is deprived of liberty, since Säpo has applied for him to be expelled according to the Act on Special Expulsion Control.

The man denies

Alparslan Tügel confirms that he has been commissioned to represent the man, but says he cannot share the information he received in the case to anyone other than his client.

- It is a criminal offense for me to state the reasons why my client has been expelled. What I can say is that he denies all the allegations made by the Security Police, says Alparslan Tügel.

Säpo few words about the effort

Säpo does not want to comment on or confirm any information about individual cases.

"What we can say is that we are taking a series of measures to reduce growth in extremist environments, and reduce the long-term threat in extremist environments," says Gabriel Wernstedt at Säpo's press service.

May pose a security risk

He says Säpo has the opportunity to detain persons who are not Swedish citizens pending the Migration Board's decision to expel.

- We can take people who pose a security risk into custody, he explains.

Formerly suspect for IS recruitment

The Migration Board will now make an initial assessment of the case. Any decision on expulsion can then be appealed to the government. The government can then request an oral hearing in the Migration Tribunal.

In 2015, Örebrobar was arrested on suspicion of recruiting people to the terrorist organization IS. The preliminary investigation was later closed, as crime could not be substantiated.
