Prosecutor's extension of retirement age The ruling party thinks about voting within the week Opposition parties call for withdrawal May 13, 5:23

The proposed revision of the Public Prosecutor's Office Law, which allows prosecutors to extend their retirement age, will be questioned by the House of Representatives Cabinet Committee on the 13th. The ruling party wants to vote this week, while the opposition wants to withdraw and talks are expected to continue.

The proposed revision of the Public Prosecutor's Office Act allows prosecutors to extend their retirement age. Along with the bill to gradually raise the retirement age of national civil servants to 65, a question will be asked by the House of Representatives Cabinet Committee on the 13th.

Prime Minister Abe stated on the 12th that the amendment was proposed, "It will not hurt the independence of the public prosecutor, and will continue to make careful explanations to deepen the public's understanding."

The ruling party wants to pass the House of Representatives by voting by the committee this week and then by the plenary session in order to pass it by the current Diet.

On the other hand, the opposition side is demanding the withdrawal, saying that the representative of the Constitutional Democratic Party, Edano, said, "There is no doubt that the neutrality of the prosecution will be distorted, and it cannot be forgiven."

The opposition party plans to submit an amendment that will delete the provisions that allow extension of retirement for up to 3 years if the Cabinet approves, and it is expected that discussions will continue between the ruling and opposition parties over the voting date.
