It was a Dutch vessel that had a hole in a container at the end of February, which caused plastic pellets to leak on the southern coast of Denmark. Then the plastic traveled with the currents to the Oslo Fjord in Norway and has now reached the Swedish West Coast.

Findings have been made on the Onsala Peninsula in Kungsbacka Municipality and are at risk of being spread further along the Halland coast.

According to the County Administrative Board in Halland, this could pose a danger to wildlife as they may lose the plastic for food.

- It doesn't break down so it can be that it gathers and gets stuck in the digestive tract, says Daniel Simonsson.

Want help

The County Administrative Board now wants the help of the semi-landowners to locate plastic pellets along the coast.

- We are very dependent on getting observations from the public about what this might be somewhere, says Daniel Simonsson, marine biologist at the County Administrative Board in Halland.
