A complaint was filed against the airline Iberia for violation of anti-pandemic health measures during a Madrid-Las Palmas (Canary) flight that was too full on Sunday, announced the Spanish Civil Guard on Monday.

Sunday, the passengers of the flight had shared, on social networks, photos of the plane "almost full", deploring the absence of "safety distance" between passengers, when the three seats in a row were occupied, without leave one vacant in the middle.

The aircraft was 86% full

"Iberia will be denounced for not respecting the sanitary measures" specified in the decree of March 14 establishing the state of alert, said a spokeswoman for the Civil Guard. "Checks were made on the Madrid - Las Palmas flight on Sunday and the measures established by decree were not applied," she said. According to public television TVE, agents of the Civil Guard found that the plane had an occupancy rate of 86%, with 155 passengers for 180 seats.

Iberia argued that "both the industry - International Air Transport Association (IATA) first - and the manufacturer Airbus have recently argued that blocking the headquarters is not necessary to provide more security, since the aircraft offers specific characteristics which make the risk of contagion low. ”

Masks, filters and disinfection

The company claims to apply "all measures to protect customers and employees", who "all wear a mask on board". "In the cabin of an airplane, the air changes every three minutes and the use of HEPA filters eliminates viruses and bacteria with an efficiency of 99.99%", explains Iberia, who also reinforced the cleaning and disinfection.

Iberia says it organizes a very small number of flights, "in order to facilitate connections for cases of force majeure", and assures that "these flights generally have a very low occupancy rate".
