The nurse Therése Mechlenburg has received the hospital management's approval to film at the newly opened covid-19 department at the Vrinevis Hospital in Norrköping.

- Of course, I hesitated to film a patient. But both Hjalle and his relatives thought it was okay. And Hjalle wanted to be a part of showing a positive image, says Therése Mechlenburg, who makes a video diary for SVT Nyheter Öst.

Here you will find her video diary.

When the film was filmed, Jan “Hjalle” Hjalmarsson has been in the respirator with covid-19 for several weeks. He cannot breathe himself and has a tube into the trachea so he cannot talk.

"Mim and write notes"

- But he mimics and writes on notes. So we can still communicate. And when he starts to feel better, we laugh a lot together, says undersea nurse Therése Mechlenburg, who worked near Hjalle.

Hjalle was cared for in the respirator for more than a month. He has now had to leave the intensive care unit and is being rehabilitated in a care department. He has seen the video and approved that we publish it.

Here you can read more about Hjalle and hear his son Peter tell us about the dramatic weeks and the father's very first phone call when he could talk again.
