One day in January, after the review of Arlagården was published, the district veterinarian Mats Scharin visited the farm in Hälsingland. He had been called there by the owner and his engineer to do a check on the animals.

- My conclusions are that the animals have been suffering for a long time. And then you are obliged to immediately stop the suffering, says Mats Scharin today to Assignment Review.

“Oblige to make a notification”

He found lean animals and dirty animals with manure armor - thus feces that dried into the fur. In addition, he found sick animals that were limp.

- When I had melted what I had seen the day after, I decided that I was obliged to report to the county administrative board, says Mats Scharin.

The report describes the farm conditions in detail. He found, among other things, 15 pieces of limp animals, several of which were difficult to walk.

A policereport

After the visit, up to 80 of the cows were slaughtered. And in February, 11 days after district veterinarian Mats Scharin's visit to the farm, the county board chose to report the animal owner to the police. In an email, Jenny Larsson, Head of Unit at the County Administrative Board in Gävleborg writes:

“Based on the observations we made in this case, it was made that there was reason to report to the Police Authority. Since we received a notification from a veterinarian during the same period, this was included in our prosecution report. "

The other cows on the farm have been sold, and the farm has been sold for SEK 19 million to a large dairy farmer in Hälsingland.
