China News Service, May 12 (Xinhua) According to the Chinese Embassy in Singapore website, the Ministry of Manpower of Singapore issued the latest announcement on the processing and extension of work permits for the extension of the blocking measures. The contents are selected as follows:

  1. The Employment Pass (EP) Service Center and the Ministry of Manpower Service Center Hall C will be closed. If you have not completed registration or received a new certificate, you can continue to stay in the new legal residence with a notification letter or card replacement letter.

For the necessary service personnel who hold work-type permits to work at home or need to go out after approval, the above-mentioned letter can be used as proof of the validity of their permits. For the notice letter about to expire, the Ministry of Manpower will automatically extend the extension, and the holder does not need to apply separately. After the blocking measures are completed, please log on to the Ministry of Manpower website for more information.

  2. Passes that expire from May 6 to June 5, 2020 will be automatically extended to July 1, 2020. Except for the following pass holders:

Work Permit for Performing Artiste, Training Work Permit, Training Employment Pass, Training Employment Pass, Personalised Employment Pass and their dependants, Working Holiday Pass Certificate (Work Holiday Pass), confinement and baby care nanny (Confinement nannies), non-Malaysian foreign domestic workers (FDW) under 50 years old.

The work permit for Malaysian domestic workers and foreign domestic workers aged 50 and over can still be extended until July 1.

The above personnel can use SGWorkPass to view the latest validity period of the pass online. Employers should still follow relevant regulations such as the timely payment of wages during the blocking measures, otherwise they will be punished accordingly.

  3. In-principle approvals (In-principle approvals) that expire during the blocking period will be automatically extended for 2 months, and no application is required for the extension.

  4. After the employer cancels the permit for foreign migrant workers, if the migrant workers are temporarily unable to return to China due to reasons such as travel restrictions, the employer may apply for an extension of their stay through the online application method. Employers should avoid hiring new people from abroad during the blocking measures. Employers can apply for new work permits for foreigners who are already in Singapore, but the applications that can be approved will be very limited.

The embassy in Singapore reminds Chinese new workers to pay attention to the latest announcement of the Ministry of Manpower, strictly abide by Singapore ’s prevention and control measures and regulations such as restricting outings, maintaining social distance, and wearing masks during the epidemic.
