• Municipal. The PSC tries to seduce the ERC to veto the PP in the Mayor's Office of Badalona

Xavier García Albiol finds it difficult again to become mayor of Badalona this Tuesday. Socialists, commoners and independence activists have redirected the discrepancies in which they ran aground since the former mayor Álex Pastor (PSC) resigned when he was arrested for assaulting the police officers who caught him driving drunk. PP rivals will speed up the margin to renew the veto; It would be the third in five years against the most voted formation in the fourth city of Catalonia.

In exchange for preventing Albiol's return, the PSC has offered former sovereignist mayor Dolors Sabater (Guanyem Badalona, linked to the CUP) to immediately regain command. It is offered by the Mayor's Office until November 2021, in exchange for the socialist Rubén Guijarro taking over from then on and until the 2023 municipal elections.

Sabater has defined as "a very important change" that the Socialists lift the veto after the negotiations surrounding who occupies the Mayor's office. However, he has warned that he disagrees with splitting a year and a half with Pebble. In any case, the former mayoress has opened to accept the alternation modifying the conditions. In this sense, he suggests extending his stay at the helm of the Consistory by two years.

"We agree in evaluating the mayoralty being shared, but we do not agree with dividing it by a year and a half. It would give a fragility that does not touch," said Sabater, who has advanced that he will not withdraw his candidacy to be re-elected tomorrow, even in the assumption that the absolute majority of the votes returned to power is not guaranteed.

The PSC appointed the sovereignist in 2015 to the front of the city to overthrow Albiol and expelled her three years later by means of a censure motion backed by the PP. The former mayor believes that "a step" has been taken to redress differences with the PSC and has proposed "outlining" how to take turns in the Mayor's Office and shielding a pact to "create a strong government that can be effective in the face of the crisis and slow down to the populism of the PP ".

Sabater had ruled out in recent days dividing the leadership with the Socialists and demanded to head a concentration government until the end of the mandate to isolate the PP from the opposition. The former mayor proposed the cohabitation to the socialists after Albiol imposed himself again at the polls in May 2019. He reiterated the possibility a few months ago, but now he branded it as "invention" and judged that the PSC had been discredited to command the consistory. The Socialists were predisposed to share the Mayor's Office, but they tried to share it with the ERC to relegate Sabater.

In the absence of specifying whether the renewed alliance against the PP will take shape, Albiol's opponents seek to integrate five parties into the local government: the sovereigns of Guanyem Badalona, ERC and JxCat and the federalists of PSC and the commons. Until now, a bipartite of socialists and Badalona in Comú Podem was running the municipal executive.
