According to the prefect of Manyu, Mayor Prisley Ojong, 35, " was cowardly shot dead by armed men around 10 am on Sunday ". He was on his way to what he thought was a very important meeting, to meet a group of separatists who made a call to him, announcing their intention to lay down their arms. The mayor did not see the trap and hastened to go to his meeting, accompanied by two soldiers and his driver. It was an ambush: on the way, his car was shot, one of which was fatal to him. The other occupants of the vehicle escaped with injuries.
Prisley Ojong was a successful young economic operator in the region. He had been elected mayor of Mamfe barely two months ago, during the last municipal elections, which elections had been resumed in a dozen municipalities in the English-speaking region. The election at the time had been disrupted by attacks by separatist groups.
