  • SNCF announces that a free access coupon will be required to purchase a TER ticket from or to Lille and Paris.
  • This measure aims to limit the number of spaces per car and to guarantee an occupancy rate of 50% maximum.
  • As of Monday, 552 trains, or 45% of normal traffic, must provide connections in the Hauts-de-France.

To take the TER from Monday, you must book. In its deconfinement plan, the Hauts-de-France regional directorate of SNCF announces, in a press release, that "in addition to the usual ticket, a free access coupon will be required to travel on TER trains from or bound for Lille and Paris ”.

This measure - also adopted by other high-density regions - aims to limit the number of seats per car and guarantee an occupancy rate of 50% maximum on these trains, which are usually crowded during peak hours. It is based on the health measures implemented to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Check the schedule the day before departure

"To avoid a massive influx into the TER, we have set up a pre-reservation system", explains the SNCF to 20 Minutes . As with the TGV, you must reserve your seat before you can buy your ticket. And this, from three days before the departure of the train.

It will therefore be necessary to plan as much as the SNCF advises to check the timetable, the day before departure. “The transport plan is degraded compared to the ordinary, there may be changes of a few minutes on the schedules. The final timetables will be available from 5pm, ”she warns.

Numeric fraction

The only problem with this system: the SNCF has not planned to issue this ticket voucher. "Not all ticket offices will reopen and queues must be avoided," said SNCF. And the terminals in the stations are not technically capable of adapting to this pre-reservation device. You will therefore have to print the coupon from the Internet via the regional TER site or have a smartphone.

Our file on deconfinement

This measure therefore risks widening the digital divide a little more. "We are clearly in a phase of progressive reopening with the objective of limiting travel," assumes the SNCF.

Normally, around 1,200 TERs circulate on the Hauts-de-France network. As of Monday, 552 trains are scheduled to operate. "All the lines of the Hauts-de-France TER will be served, with a level however heterogeneous to take account of the frequentation", indicates the SNCF. Since March 18, the SNCF has operated approximately 140 daily circulations in the Hauts-de-France.
