A few weeks ago, SVT Västerbotten was able to tell us that the Swedish Consumer Agency conducted a review of the rental conditions for various housing companies in Sweden, including the municipal housing company Bostaden AB in Umeå.

The Consumer Agency found that the company had shortcomings in its rental conditions. Among other things, they were too unclear about what tenants receive and must not do about renovation in their home. In the lease agreements, the Swedish Consumer Agency also found conditions for joint and several liability in the event of damage, which is contrary to the Rent Act.

Changes its terms

The housing is now changing its conditions and should become clearer. Instead of collective liability in the event of damages, it should now be stated that "the tenant is responsible for damages caused by the tenant or his guests [...]".
