Nationally, the Sports Federation runs projects around sports-poor areas and movement initiatives in the school. In Gävle, the investments have been linked to a model that can now be spread to other parts of the country.

- The unique thing about the Gävle venture is our way of collaborating. The key to our work is to increase the understanding of the movement of children, educators, parents and the sports associations in the neighborhoods we work in right now.

This is stated by Pia Hillgren, Head of Operations for Projects and Inclusion at the Swedish Sports Federation-SISU Gävleborg.

Four schools

First out is the Forsbackaskolan in Forsbacka, Andersberg School in Andersberg and Sjöängsskolan and Lillhagsskolan in Bomhus. There, educators, parents and leaders are trained at the local sports associations to increase understanding of movement and to lower the thresholds for sports and movement in both school and leisure.

- Not being able to afford or know where to turn to practice sports should not be an obstacle to moving and having an active leisure, says Rebecca Ahlenius at Save the Children.

- We work to ensure that all children have the right to meaningful leisure time, she says.
