There may be several reasons why Stockholm has high death rates and the proportion of sick people in covid-19. But one of the possible explanations Emma Frans gives is air pollution.

- There are also theories on whether air pollution can explain why we see these regional differences that appear to be typical of covid-19, she tells SVT's Aktuellt.

That you would be more exposed in Stockholm because the air is worse?

- It could be that or people living in areas where there is a lot of air pollution, that they may have risk factors that make them worse.

Gotland Travelers

Frans also points out that it can be a problem this summer if many people from a certain part of the country visit areas that are not so badly affected. Gotland is one such example, says Emma Frans.

- Among other things, many people who may hope to go to Gotland this summer. Gotland is a fairly isolated region that so far has quite a few cases. If a large number of Stockholmers came there, it could probably burden the health care in a way that is not sustainable.

Regional Councils

Nor does she rule out that the authorities' recommendations on travel in summer may vary in different parts of the country.

- So far, the restrictions have looked pretty similar, despite the fact that there has been a lot of focus on the outbreak in Stockholm. It will be very interesting to see in case there are more distinct geographical differences what recommendations are given, says Emma Frans.
