07 May 2020 The number of arrivals of international tourists could plummet from 60 to 80% in 2020 due to the coronavirus. These are the forecasts of the World Tourism Organization, which has drastically revised the previous forecasts downwards. Travel restrictions and the closure of airports and borders have plunged international tourism into its worst crisis since 1950, according to the United Nations body.

Arrivals of tourists decreased by 22% in the first three months of the year and by 57% only in March, with Asia and Europe experiencing the biggest drops, according to the Madrid-based organization. "Millions of jobs are at risk in one of the economy's most labor-intensive sectors," said Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili.
