The promoter of the MotoGP championship has proposed to the Spanish government to organize two races in July on the circuit of Jerez (Spain), followed by an event of the World Superbike Championship (WSBK), he announced Thursday.

"The Andalusian regional government, the City Council of Jerez and Dorna have agreed to propose to the Spanish government that with its agreement the Jerez-Angel Nieto circuit will host two MotoGP Grand Prix and a WorldSBK event in late July and in early August, "said a statement.

The proposed dates are July 19 and 26 for MotoGP races and August 2 for the WSBK. The first MotoGP event would be called the Spanish Grand Prix and the second Andalusian Grand Prix.

The press release does not specify under what conditions these races would be organized but the CEO of Dorna, Carmelo Ezpeleta, previously clarified that the format chosen for any possible race would be that of the camera, without public or media, with regular health checks carried out on the members of the stables present.

The MotoGP Championship should in principle have started in Qatar in March, but given the coronavirus pandemic, its first 11 events have either been postponed or canceled.

The races in the Moto2 and Moto3 categories were however able to take place on March 8 in Qatar, the teams already being on site after having participated in tests the previous week.

The Spanish group Dorna is both the promoter of the MotoGP / Moto2 / Moto3 championships and of the WSBK.

The latter championship was able to compete in Australia in late February / early March, but the next one, also scheduled for Qatar, has been postponed.
