• Coronavirus: US fails to flatten curve and could reach 3,000 deaths daily in early June

A masked man has robbed at least 21 establishments since the coronavirus pandemic broke out in New York in mid-March, according to the city's Police Department, which has released images of the individual.

Security forces claimed that the criminal assaulted restaurants and grocery stores in both the Queens and Brooklyn neighborhoods since March 17, while the last robbery attributed to him happened on Sunday, May 2.

The 1.72-meter-tall man operates by covering his face with a white mask and gloves of the same color , in addition to a gray hooded jacket, and accesses the establishments by throwing bricks through the windows or damaging the locks, according to the police.

The thief has taken jewelry, electronics, cigarettes, alcohol and approximately $ 4,300 in cash from the stores that remain closed.

Police have posted a video of one of the assaults on social media, and offered $ 2,500 to anyone who can offer information about the individual.

Since mid-March, the New York authorities began closing the city and decreeing the closure of all businesses considered non-essential, so that a majority of establishments remain closed.

Although New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has discussed the possibility of restarting activities in parts of the state starting May 15, he has also noted that the Big Apple and its suburbs would be the last areas to return to normal, given that they have been the most affected by the pandemic.

New York State has been the epicenter of the epidemic in the US, where there have been close to 330,000 cases of coronavirus and more than 26,000 deaths .
