The Dieppe (Seine-Maritime) Criminal Court sentenced a 29-year-old man to one year in prison for trafficking in human beings, on Monday, reports  Paris-Normandy .

The case began on Saturday, May 2, when this individual, whose identity has not yet been formally established, refused to submit to an ordinary traffic check. He engaged in a mad chase with the gendarmes on the A 28 motorway before being finally arrested. Inside his vehicle, the soldiers noted that he was carrying ten people of Iraqi nationality, including two minor boys.

Prison and ban on staying in France

If the gendarmes had decided to control this vehicle, it was because of its load that seemed important. Despite the soldiers' orders to stop, the driver, who is also said to be Iraqi, tried to flee, to no avail. He was caught after having covered fifty kilometers.

According to the first elements of the investigation, the ten people transported in this vehicle came from the "jungle" of Dunkirk. After his appearance before the criminal court, the driver was sentenced to one year in prison as well as a ban on staying on French territory for five years, when he is released from prison.
