On Friday, April 17, President Tobias Baudin stated that the Municipality will henceforth require that the municipalities provide safety-classified respiratory protection with a valve in work with suspected or found contaminated on special housing or on home service housing.

The simpler mouthguards would not suffice.

About 30 safety stops were issued in various parts of Sweden where the municipalities could not meet the requirement. In Kiruna alone, four protective stops were issued and in Gällivare one.

The Swedish Work Environment Authority canceled the stop almost immediately and went on the recommendation of the Public Health Authority which says that mouth protection and visors are sufficient.

Now also comes new message from Municipal.

“The recommendations that Kommunal makes now are not as sharp as before, so that we can continue to carry on the extremely important - and urgent - work environment work without being stopped. Liquid-resistant mouthguards and visors are Municipal requirements if suspected or found covid-19! ”, Writes Johan Ingelsson, Head of Unit at the Workplace and Contract Unit, on the Municipal website.

Johan Ingelsson, however, does not believe that Kommunal has backed down.

- Our view is still that we should have the higher level of protective equipment, because we are very uncertain about how covid-19 is infected. On the other hand, we advise our safety representatives not to put a stop to that level right now, he says.
