The senior citizens constitute 6.8% of the total society of the Emirate of Dubai, equivalent to 17 thousand and 209 individuals, and statistics indicate the growth of this category, so that there is an individual senior citizens among every four Emirati individuals in Dubai, after the passage of 50 years.
The Social Development Authority set the general framework for the policy, through analyzing the current situation, studying best practices and aligning with the axes and objectives of the national policy, and summarized a number of axes and initiatives represented by the social welfare axis, which aims to raise the rate of financial sufficiency of senior citizens, and ensure the rehabilitation of their homes and strengthen their relationship with Their families, in addition to raising the level of communication between them and different generations. Within the axis of protection from abuse, neglect and exploitation, the focus will be on reducing the rates of abuse, neglect and exploitation of senior citizens and the elderly residents and visitors, while the focus of community participation focuses on increasing the proportion of senior citizens working (employees - employers - entrepreneurs), and focus on increasing the rate Volunteer among them, and raise their rates of exercise for social and sports activities.
The authority has developed a number of capabilities to reflect the goals of the axes on the ground, by raising the quality of social services for senior citizens and the elderly, increasing the proportion of qualified social workers per 1,000 residents, and increasing the number of social services provided through associations and private institutions.
