"Ibn Taymiyyah is not a terrorist."

Against the background of the Egyptian series "Choice", an attempt to link the Muslim scholar and jurist Taqi al-Din Abu al-Abbas Ahmed bin Abd al-Halim, famous for "Ibn Taymiyyah", with extremism and terrorism, activists and men launched a mark to defend the man, which has emerged among the most widely used tags on Twitter in Egypt.

In one of his recently broadcast episodes, an actor playing a "terrorist" role appeared in the series, in a scene in which he cites the words of Ibn Taymiyyah, in the context of his justification of the killing of civilians during terrorist operations, as he gave part of a prophetic hadith deducted from his context and attributed his narration to the Sheikh.

Ibn Taymiyyah, who was born in 661 from Hijrah in "Harran" in the Levant, was nicknamed in the books of biography and history as "Sheikh of Islam", and his name is Ahmed Bin Abdul Halim Bin Abdul Salam Al Harrani, who is Taqi al-Din Abu Al Abbas, and he was famous for Ibn Taymiyyah.

Ibn Taymiyya excelled in a number of sciences of the Qur’an and Sharia, including that of hadith, jurisprudence and theology of speech, and was distinguished by a special method in the presentation of his ideas that started from the need to adhere to the Sunnahs of the righteous predecessors, and had a great impact in that which brought on him in return discounts and hostilities from those who did not accept his ideas and his way .

The series "The Choice", which included criticizing "Ibn Taymiyyah", features the biography of the commander of the brigade 103 lightning strikes in the Egyptian armed forces, Colonel Ahmed Saber al-Mansi, presented by the Egyptian media as "the icon of the thunderbolt forces", after he was killed in an armed operation targeting his battalion in Ramadan, corresponding to the year 2017 .

Against this background, activists launched the "#Tim_Timia_Mesh_Terrorist" tag, to defend the sheikh, to respond to the accusations against him, and to show dissatisfaction with the series and the contents of the attack on "one of the symbols of Islam" in his era in the words of a number of interactors.

In this context, the Egyptian writer Islam Al-Beheiri, who is known for his attack on many Muslim scholars and thinkers, celebrated what was included in the selection series, considering that "a great victory", as the series "produced under the auspices of the Egyptian state."

However, singers interacting with the marking, they had another opinion, as they considered eating the Sheikh of Islam in the series, and provided an appropriate opportunity to defend and introduce him, at a time when Muslims were busy with "knowing their former symbols and flags."

Within the broad interaction with the marking, dozens of Sheikh Ibn Taymiyyah’s fans conveyed statements and expressions to him confirming his rejection of violence and penance, and his stand against the Kharijites and people of stray thought, in addition to his tolerance of his abusers, and his patience for his imprisonment and unbelief.

Others recalled, in the context of his defense, that the Egyptian Ministry of Defense suspended his words on a wall in the Ministry's recruitment building, carrying a famous phrase attributed to the Sheikh under the title "Words of Gold".

While others tried to mediate in his defense by asserting that he is "neither infallible nor above criticism", they stressed that the criticism of his thought must be through evidence, logic, and proofs, "away from groaning and touching with ignorance and stupidity", as one of them put it.

Others have argued that whoever attacks Sheikh Ibn Taymiyyah is the same person who attacked contemporary and former symbols, such as Imam Al-Bukhari, Sheikh Al-Shaarawi and Sheikh Al-Azhar, stressing that these do not target a specific person, but rather their goal is to "distort the image of Islam" by attacking its symbols and scholars.
