Last week, the first parts of the hall's basic construction were erected. The work will now continue throughout the spring and summer. The project is still up to date and at the beginning of October everything will be ready for the bandy season. There will be 12 meters free ceiling height inside and the total head height is 17 meters.

- In terms of volume, there are 550 single-storey villas in there, says project manager Håkan Stenström.

Costs 115 million

The cost of the hall itself is SEK 76 million and a total of 115 million will be spent on the project. A sum that has raised many eyebrows.

- You can be critical of any investment. But we have a responsibility to invest for future generations and sometimes it costs a few bucks sometimes, ”says Göran Dahlström (S), chairman of the municipal council in Katrineholm.

Fewer ice surfaces but more time

Another concern has been whether the public should have a seat in the hall and not just elite teams and club sports. As the hall is being built, two popular, smaller ice surfaces are demolished in the same area.

- This is a question we must solve of course, but since the ice will be in here all year round, it means that time will be longer for more people to be able to use it, says Anneli Hedberg (S), chair of the Service and Technology Committee in Katrineholm.
