Between April 30 and May 2, the Food Administration's food inspectors were out to get a picture of the congestion at Malmö's outdoor restaurants, restaurants, bars and cafes.

The inspectors visited 38 restaurant operations in Limhamn, Möllevången and Davidhall, of which ten visits were to follow up previous shortcomings.

- Seven restaurant operations did not meet the requirements that we set when we were on site, which means that we will carry out follow-up checks at those locations, says Arvid Nordland, unit manager at the environmental administration in Malmö.

The shortcomings were mainly about congestion due to furnishing both indoors and outdoors, lack of signs or appropriations with information on keeping distances and difficulties in supervising the guests on the outdoor dining area.

The overall impression of the inspectors is that the vast majority of operators do what they can to reduce congestion and allow guests to keep safe distances.

- We also see that deficiencies that we previously pointed out have now been largely addressed, Head of Unit Arvid Nordland to SVT News Skåne

A second check helped

An operation had not remedied the deviations previously pointed out by the environmental administration and the case was therefore sent to Smittskydd Skåne.

The company then immediately took measures to avoid congestion and was therefore never closed.

The next day, the inspectors made a return visit and found that the problem had been resolved and that there was no longer any congestion between tables and chairs.

- It is very important that everyone, both visitors and employees are aware of the importance of following these rules and think about their own role and how to make a difference, says Arvid Nordland, unit manager.
