Thus the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in a message sent to the Army Chief of Staff, Army Corps General, Salvatore Farina, in which he states:" On the 159th anniversary of the establishment of the Italian Army I extend a respectful tribute to the Flag of the Armed Force, a symbol of value, courage and unity ".

"A moved and grateful thought goes to soldiers of all ranks and specialties who have fallen or been injured in the fulfillment of their duty in the service of Italy. At every moment of our history, men and, in more recent times - recalls the Chief of the State -, the women of the Armed Force have constituted a solid and secure point of reference for the country and for the Italian people. From the Risorgimento wars to the world wars that have deeply shaken our country and the whole world, the armed force has offered the just generous contribution with impetus, sacrifice and heroism to defend the freedom, country, values ​​and culture of our nation ".

Mattarella underlines that "the Army is still a protagonist in Italy in the competition for collective security and abroad in the many missions of peace, stabilization and counter-terrorism in which it provides support that is always appreciated and highly sought after by the international community. The operational readiness and professionalism of our soldiers, never separated from honor, from the sense of humanity and empathy, makes us particularly credible and respected by local populations and inspires the admiration of allied and friendly countries. The values ​​to which the Armed Force it is inspired, inherited from past generations who have shown the way, have allowed the army to face with authority and competence the complex tasks entrusted by the country ".
