Christie's auction house will organize a sale in June for the benefit of a fund from the amfAR association dedicated to research on the Covid-19, to compensate for the cancellation of its famous gala, flagship social event on the fringes of the festival. from Cannes.

The entire proceeds of the sale will go to this new fund recently created by the association.

A series of works have been donated by collectors as well as by the artists themselves, some never exhibited in public, Christie's said in a statement released on Monday.

The exact date of the sale, titled "From the Studio", has not been announced but will "coincide" with Christie's New York big spring sales, which have been pushed back to the week of June 22.

As for the list of works, it will be announced gradually during the month of May.

AmfAR was created in 1985 in the United States, under the chairmanship of actress Elizabeth Taylor. Since then, it has invested more than $ 550 million in AIDS research programs, thanks to donations.

Last year, the amfAR gala and its auction raised $ 15 million, in the presence of celebrities like Mariah Carey or Kendall Jenner, with a napkin ring billed for $ 13,000.

The gala is organized every year at Cap d'Antibes (Alpes-Maritimes), on the sidelines of the Cannes festival, but was canceled this year due to a pandemic.
