Nantes mayor Johanna Rolland (PS) warned on Saturday that it would "not be possible" for all children to return to school on May 11. "We must not let the French believe that all the little schoolchildren will go back to school, simply because it is not possible if we want to respect health standards correctly", declared on France Inter Johanna Rolland . "This reopening will be gradual," she insisted, deploring "a little vagueness on the side of the state".

“Many mayors were organized according to the first announcements from the Minister of National Education who told us that the CP, CE1 and CM2 would return to school. A few days after, change of program, the Prime Minister did not retain these orientations ”, she noted.

"Thousands of municipalities have worked on a plan that must be reviewed," added Johanna Rolland, calling on the government to "stay on course." Particularly skeptical for the recovery of kindergarten students, the mayor of Nantes assured that the city "would not take any risk". "If there are places where we cannot do it, we will say so."

Masks, a recommendation more than an obligation

In an interview with Le Figaro , Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer affirmed that "the majority of nursery and primary schools" will reopen on May 11, the date of the start of progressive deconfinement in National Education.

Asked about the wearing of masks, Johanna Rolland recalled that the mayors had "no legal basis to impose it". "You have to recommend it," she said. She will present her plan to resume school in the coming days.
