The White House refused to appear, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Anthony Fuchi, to Congress to testify, saying he would later set with the Congress an appropriate time to testify.

This is in response to a call by a representative committee to Fuchi to testify about the Trump administration's handling of the Corona pandemic.

In a statement, the White House justified its decision that officials testifying before Congress while they are busy fighting the Corona virus is "unproductive." But the statement added that the White House is working with Congress to find an appropriate timing for the testimony.

The White House issued an e-mail statement after a spokesman for the House of Representatives committee holding the hearing said that Trump administration officials had informed the committee that Fuchi would not testify.

"As the Trump administration continues its full government response to the emerging corona virus, including opening America safely again and speeding up the development of a vaccine, it is not fruitful to have specific individuals involved in those efforts appear before congressional hearings," White House spokesman Jod Derry said. We are committed to working with Congress to provide testimony at the appropriate time. "

Complex relationship
Fauchi was one of the leading medical experts who helped guide the US response to the highly contagious virus.

Trump has repeatedly clashed with the Democrat-dominated House of Representatives over his moves to investigate his or his administration's actions.

Democrats criticized Trump, saying he had failed to devise a comprehensive and effective plan to screen Americans for coronavirus infection and track contact with those infected.

The relationship of Fawcci, 79, to Trump is respected, but somewhat complicated.

Last month, the White House said that Trump does not intend to fire Fawcci even though he reposted a tweet by one of his supporters calling for his dismissal.

At the time, a White House spokesman said, "Dr. Fuchi was and remains a reliable adviser to President Trump."
