Sweden's Radio in Växjö does marathon broadcast with bird song

The broadcast, entitled Bird Song Night, begins at midnight, the night between Saturday and Sunday, and continues until eight in the morning. Reporters and bird experts will be in place around the country. 

- Some hours before sunrise, the birds wake up and can no longer be silent. It will happen first in Norrbotten so we start there outside Luleå, says Jenny Berntson Djurvall, one of the program leaders. 

Live broadcasting with bird song is nothing new but has been around for many years internationally. This year, Sweden was supposed to participate for the first time - but the corona pandemic came in between. 

- We would have participated in the broadcast "Dawn Chorus" made from Ireland with many participating countries. But when the corona virus and various curfews stopped, we thought we were driving ourselves, says Jenny Berntson Djurvall. 

The bird song night is broadcast in P1 night between Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3, and can be followed here.
