This statement was made by the official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Abbas Mousavi.

"The US government, which uses a policy of economic sanctions, military threats and the recent establishment of a transitional council against Venezuela, failed because it faced resistance from the Venezuelan authorities and people," Tasnim quoted him as saying.

According to Mousavi, Washington puts forward such accusations to thwart Caracas’s plans to restore oil refineries in the country.

Gasoline shortages, in turn, are also caused in Venezul due to severe US sanctions, Mousavi emphasized.

Earlier, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreasa commented on the words of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who proposed creating an interim government in the Latin American country, holding free elections with the subsequent lifting of sanctions.
