It was on Friday that a smaller sailboat with a Swedish flag was discovered in the middle of the Skagerrak. On board there was a man who reportedly wanted to seek asylum in Norway.

"The person is seeking asylum," writes the Rescue Center (HRS) in southern Norway on Twitter.

It was a commercial freighter that first saw the boat. They alarmed HRS when they saw no one on board.

- We got a ship to drop the course. As they approached, they saw a person waving, the rescue leader Owe Frøland told Dagbladet.

He does not want to say what nationality the man has except that he is not a Swedish citizen.

- He wants to go to a European country. He is seeking asylum in Norway.

The man will now be taken care of by the Norwegian police because he was in Norwegian water. According to Dagbladet, the boat was between Norwegian Kristiansand and Danish Hirtshals.
