The urban community of Amiens said Friday that it intends to take legal action to challenge the relegation to Ligue 2 of Amiens SC, acted on Thursday by the early end of the L1 season voted by the Professional Football League (LFP).

"Brigitte Fouré, Mayor of Amiens and Alain Gest, President of Amiens Métropole, do not intend to allow themselves to be done after the decision (...) to relegate Amiens SC to Ligue 2 when he 10 matches to play and thirty points to take in the 2019/2020 season. As of Monday, the elected officials will approach the lawyers of the community to determine a battle plan on the legal field, "wrote the urban community in a press release published Friday.

"Beyond the sports consequences, the community is already measuring the repercussions both economically and in terms of attractiveness. Thus the rental of the stadium paid by Amiens SC in Amiens Métropole, the direct and indirect jobs generated by the meetings will have an impact on the local economy, "she said.

Amiens Métropole also highlights its "big financial efforts" to carry out major renovations in recent months at the Stade de la Licorne.

"+ Losing part of our attractiveness on the green carpet is not conceivable + indicate Brigitte Fouré and Alain Gest, who intend to assert their good rights before the appropriate jurisdiction", concludes the local authority.

In addition, the Picard club, which was classified 19th and penultimate at the time of the interruption of the championship because of the coronavirus pandemic, announced Friday that it could also turn to justice.

"Amiens SC reserves the right to contest this decision, since sports equity (...) should on the contrary have led the various decision-making bodies not to pronounce any relegation", believes the Amiens team, which was experiencing its third season in the elite.

Thursday, the president of the CSA, Bernard Joannin, had already affirmed on the Facebook page of the club that he intended "to fight" against this decision which he considered "unfair".
