The UAE-backed transitional council in southern Yemen gave Saudi forces on Socotra until midnight on Friday to remove checkpoints at the entrances to the city of Hadiboh, and the council demanded the removal of Governor Ramzi Mahrous.

A source in the local authority in Socotra told the island that the UAE was planning to storm the city of Hadiboh and take control of government institutions and the island's only port.

Meanwhile, Yemeni Foreign Minister Muhammad al-Hadrami accused the Southern Transitional Council of trying to seize state resources and disrupt the work of institutions, including the central bank in Aden, and that he mortgaged himself abroad.

This came in a phone call with the Secretary General of the European Union's foreign service, which expressed rejection of the actions of the Transitional Council in Aden, which undermine the Riyadh agreement and affect the peace process in Yemen, according to the Yemeni News Agency.

Al-Hadrami explained that the transitional council took advantage of the catastrophic situation that the temporary capital Aden is going through, to implement its adventure and recklessness with this announcement, and to continue its armed rebellion against the state, adding that this indicates its dependence on the outside and the absence of any clear responsible vision.

what happened?
In this regard, a source in the Yemeni authority of Socotra told Al-Jazeera that "Emirati-backed gunmen have taken control of the leadership of the 1st Marine Brigade," and a Yemeni government official accused a military leader of treason.

The source added that the brigade’s headquarters were looted, and its arms and ammunition depots were outside the control of government forces, confirming that the governorate authorities are still resisting the insurgency in light of the silence of the coalition, and the Saudi forces present in Socotra.

According to the same source, Aidros Al-Zubaidi, the head of the so-called Southern Transitional Council, appointed one of the most prominent loyalists of the Emirates to lead the brigade, called Abdullah Ahmed Kanzhar, who had previously defected to the 3rd Battalion on the island.

This comes two days after the Southern Transitional Council - which declared self-administration and the state of emergency in southern Yemen last Saturday - confirmed that it was "a delegate of the people," and would not retreat from "the interests of its people and to provide security and stability."

It is noteworthy that the United Nations, the European Union, the League of Arab States, the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation announced in separate statements their refusal to announce the transitional council autonomy for its areas of control in Aden, stressing the need to work on implementing the Riyadh agreement signed between this council and the legitimate government with Saudi sponsorship in November / Last November.
