On Thursday, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the UAE government to abandon its hostile stance against Turkey and to binding its borders against the background of an Emirati statement on the Turkish role in Libya.

This came in the words of a spokesman for the ministry, Hami Asawi, in his response to a question about a statement of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation that included a rejection of the Turkish role in Libya.

Aqsawi said that the UAE statement "is an attempt to conceal a hypocritical policy for a country that provides all forms of support to the coupists," stressing that Turkey has always shown respect for the political unity of Arab countries and the territorial integrity of their lands.

And he stated that Turkey from this standpoint stood with the legitimacy in Libya and supported the efforts of a political solution, stressing that Ankara will continue this principled position, adding that "the ugly accusations against Turkey, which are not baseless, are primarily a product of this country (UAE) attempts to cover up its destructive activities ".

He pointed out that the UAE "provided years of arms and military supplies and mercenaries to the revolutionaries in Libya", and pointed out that the international community is aware of the destabilizing and international peace and security movements implemented by the UAE in the whole region, including Yemen, Syria and the Horn of Africa, not just Libya.

An Emirati statement
Earlier, the UAE expressed its rejection of what it considered as the "military role" of Turkey in Libya, praising the achievements of the forces of retired Major General Khalifa Hifter "against terrorism" in the country, according to a statement of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

And the UAE statement expressed Abu Dhabi's "categorical rejection of the Turkish military role, which impedes the chances of a ceasefire and prejudices the efforts of the international community to reach a comprehensive political solution."

It is noteworthy that the retired Major General Khalifa Hifter announced last Monday himself as governor of Libya and demanded his forces in eastern Libya he leads to take control of the authority, effectively canceling the political "Skhirat agreement" concluded between the parties to the conflict in 2015.
