At the same time we know that in view of the economic consequences of the pandemic it will be necessary to do more and we are also ready to act in the spirit of European solidarity in this. The agreement of the Eurogroup on a package of measures taken on April 9 shows this clearly ". German Chancellor Angela Merkel writes this in a response letter to the community of Sant'Egidio.

Following a letter that the founder of the Community of Sant'Egidio, Andrea Riccardi, had sent to Angela Merkel on the serious effects, both social and economic, of the crisis produced by the epidemic in Italy, and on the need for strong solidarity towards of our country - reads a statement - the German chancellor sent a reply in which she also writes:

"Thank you very much for your letter in which you describe the serious consequences of the Covid pandemic in Italy. This pandemic represents an unparalleled challenge, worldwide, in Europe and for each individual country. In Germany we have followed developments with great participation of the last few weeks in Italy. We are aware of the difficult situation in which your country currently finds itself. Even more we must pay tribute to the commitment of the Community of Sant'Egidio and the many volunteers. You are committed to invaluable help to people who they are particularly ill and need strong support. For this I thank you very much. " "For your important work I wish you and all those who are involved in the Community of Sant'Egidio, a lot of strength, resilience and success', concludes the chancellor.
