A military spokesman said, in a statement, that ten members of the Egyptian army were killed and wounded as a result of the explosion of an explosive device in an armored vehicle south of the city of Bir al-Abd in North Sinai.


The statement said: "An explosive device exploded today, one of the armored vehicles, south of the city of Bir al-Abd, resulting in the death and injury of an officer, a noncommissioned officer and eight soldiers, and the armed forces confirm their continued hostilities against terrorist elements to maintain the security and stability of the country."


The spokesman did not say how many people were killed in the attack, which no one has yet claimed responsibility for.
