Wales coach Wayne Pivac said on Wednesday that his players "would welcome the opportunity" to chain test matches if rugby can resume a season stopped by the coronavirus pandemic.

"We are preparing as if it were in July (the resumption) but seriously that might not be the case," said the Welsh coach who, faced with the Covid-19 pandemic, considers "unlikely" the holding of matches planned in Japan in June and tests in his native New Zealand in July.

Wales also has four home tests against Fiji, New Zealand and South Africa in its November program.

For him, "it is possible that we will go to New Zealand a little later in the season". And the XV of Wales could end up chaining these matches in the Southern Hemisphere in a few weeks, that of the Six Nations Tournament against Scotland, postponed, and a full program of autumn.

"Having spoken to them (the players), they would be delighted with the opportunity if we were to play seven test matches in the space of 8 to 10 weeks," he said.

However, he warned that the players, who are currently training alone at home, should then be in a form close to that usual for a match.
