The women's golf circuit (LPGA) announced Wednesday the postponement to October of its LPGA Championship, one of its five major tournaments, in a revised schedule providing for a resumption of the 2020 season in mid-July.

The LPGA Championship, scheduled for late June in Pennsylvania before the postponement due to the coronavirus pandemic, is rescheduled from October 8 to 11. Other tournaments in Michigan, Arkansas and Ohio in June and July have also been postponed.

"Honestly, being the + first + has never been the goal when it comes to returning to the game in this context. We have built a schedule that we think is as safe as possible," said LPGA boss Michael Whan.

The circuit will now resume on July 15 in Michigan followed by stages in Ohio and New Jersey.

The ANA Inspiration and the US Open had already been postponed to September and December respectively.

The Evian Championship is scheduled for him in early August in France but this French stage of the Grand Slam seems compromised after the French government announced bans on sporting events until September.

Only four tournaments were played this year, two in Florida in January and two in Australia in February.
