Swiss authorities said on Wednesday that they plan to allow the resumption in private of matches in the professional leagues, suspended due to the coronavirus, as of June 8.

The Federal Council (government) has announced that it "plans to authorize the professional leagues to organize matches behind closed doors as of June 8, 2020".

Before that, the authorities relaxed measures to combat the coronavirus in sport by authorizing the resumption of training from May 11.

From this date, amateur athletes can resume "their training in small groups of five people at most, without physical contact and respecting the rules of hygiene and distance," said the Federal Council in a statement.

On the other hand, for professional athletes, the restrictions "will be further reduced, since it will in particular be possible to organize training sessions for more than five people".

The Swiss football championship was interrupted in early March due to the coronavirus, as was the popular ice hockey championship.
