The last wave of the BVA poll for Europe 1 and Orange on the morale of the French, carried out half after the announcements of Edouard Philippe Tuesday and published Wednesday evening, shows that the morale of the respondents relapses slightly, as the deconfinement becomes more precise.

EXCLUSIVE

Are the French confident about the future management of the coronavirus crisis, when the first lifting of restrictions takes place in less than two weeks? The last wave of the BVA poll for Europe 1 and Orange on the morale of the French during this unprecedented period suggests, Wednesday evening, that the population has not fully recovered optimism facing the situation.

Morale that slows down a bit

On the contrary: the results of the interviews carried out for half after the announcements of Edouard Philippe, Tuesday, show that they are more numerous than the day before to estimate that "the worst is ahead of us" (50%, +2 points). They were "only" 40% during the lowest measure of this indicator, Monday April 20. If the proportion of respondents who think that the "worst is behind us" also increases slightly (14%, +2 points), it is mainly the share of those who believe in a status quo that retracts (27%, -3 points).

The morale of the French respondents in this study is now 6.3 point, 10 being synonymous with development, 0 with total depression. It was 6.4 Tuesday after 10 days at its highest level since the start of the study almost a month and a half ago. This indicator has never gone below 5.9. In addition, the proportion of individuals giving a score between 7 and 10 lost 2 points (51%), as if the happiest were slightly fewer.

Distrust of government and the media

This slight decline in the morale of the French is coupled with a still very strong distrust of the executive: the confidence of those interviewed with regard to the way the government manages the crisis remains very low (29%, +1 point since Tuesday). It will nevertheless be necessary to await the results of the next wave, carried out entirely after the announcements of Edouard Philippe, to clearly perceive an improvement, a stagnation or a deterioration of the link between the population and its government.

If confidence in the quality of information given by the media also goes up a little (32%, +2 points), other indicators are down, such as the quality of the atmosphere between the members of the household of the respondents (79 %, -2 points) or confidence in the capacity of their company to cope with this crisis (61%, -1 point) which contributed to placing 11.5 million people on partial unemployment in France.
