Mouthpiece Type-II R is a type of mouthpiece intended to first and foremost protect the wearer of the protection against so-called droplet contamination with its liquid-resistant properties. Right now, these are difficult to access in the market and when the ordinary suppliers of Gothenburg City could not deliver the mouthguards, they had to look for solutions elsewhere.

- It is very difficult to get hold of protective equipment right now. We have put out a lot of hooks to find solutions for getting stock. Now we will send back these mouthguards and the supplier has promised to make new mouthguards, but when they come we do not know, says Peter Löwenstein, planning manager of the covid-19 staff in Gothenburg city.

But after the mouthguards were delivered, test results made at the Research institute of Sweden (RISE) showed that they did not meet the requirements for such mouthguards.

"All protection better than none"

Jörgen Fogelklou (SD) still thinks that the City of Gothenburg should take advantage of the mouthguards and send them to, for example, home service personnel who currently go unprotected.

- I understand that you can't have them in surgery and so on. But in the home service, staff are at present completely without protective equipment, and there are certainly older people who would like to use them. There are many better alternatives than sending them back, he says.

In a request to the local council, the Sweden Democrats write:

“Today, for example, the home service uses no mouthguards. They also did not have proper visors available, but many of the employees have brought with them a plastic pocket meant for binders that they attached over the face with a clamp in the forehead, which is under all criticism. But all protection is better than none. "

Must protect our workers

But at the city management office in the city of Gothenburg, they are very skeptical of the politician's proposal.

- I would not consciously release a product that is wrong, it is only by the care of staff that we made this decision. Distributing these mouthguards to staff could crush them into a secure falsehood of being protected, says Peter Löwenstein.

But isn't this mouthguard better than nothing?

- This is not entirely my area, but if such mouthguards are used incorrectly, the situation can be made worse and the infection can spread instead. I am surprised by the proposal.
