"The reactivation" of football in Spain: this is what LaLiga is focusing on, reacted its president Javier Tebas this Tuesday after the announcement of the final cessation of the 2019-2020 season in France, highlighting the economic risks of '' a stopping of competitions.

"I do not understand how there will be more risk of playing football matches behind closed doors, with all the precautions, than working on an assembly line or on a fishing boat on the high seas", a considered the president of LaLiga, the body that manages professional football in Spain.

"If the important economic sectors cannot resume (their activity), in a safe and controlled manner, they could end up disappearing," warned the boss of LaLiga, stressing the fact that "it could happen with professional football".

"In other countries, teams are already training. This is the example to follow," said Tebas.

Javier Tebas reacted in this way after the announcement of the final end of the 2019-2020 season in France by government decision.

"The 2019-2020 season of professional sports, especially that of football, will not be able to resume," Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced Tuesday in a speech to the National Assembly.

"In Spain, football is an important economic engine that we need to reactivate, like many others," said Tebas, adding that LaLiga "continues to focus on this reactivation, in a responsible manner and respecting health recommendations , as soon as possible".

According to a 2019 LaLiga report, the football industry accounts for 1.37% of Spain's gross domestic product (GDP).

Football has been paralyzed in Spain since March 12, when the state of alert was declared due to the new coronavirus pandemic, and the entire population is confined until at least May 9.
