Vlasov noted that the increase in cyber fraud is partly due to the “fear of the population” in connection with the spread of COVID-19.

“Banks issued reports: now the main channel for withdrawing funds from customers' accounts and cards, as well as cash, is just social engineering related to the virus,” he said.

According to the expert, criminals adapted their fraudulent schemes taking into account the current social situation.

“These are calls that you are entitled to compensation, calls that there is a“ miracle cure ”, that disinfection of your entire apartment is prescribed for you ... Or, on the contrary,“ volunteers ”come and ask for payment for supposedly going for groceries. My colleagues conclude that now the main type of fraud occurs under the guise of a virus. All other methods are simple, they have not changed in any way, ”Vlasov added.

He also urged Muscovites to beware of scammers offering “quickly and without problems” to issue a digital pass to exit the house.

The expert advised to be vigilant about the issue of protecting personal data and noted that you should not enter into a conversation with scammers.

“Advice that you need to chop on your nose: if you got a call and offered to do something for the money that you are supposed to do for free, immediately throw the phone. If you enter into a conversation, the people who are sitting on the other end of the wire have certain suggestion techniques, and they will definitely divorce you for something, ”the expert concluded.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the number of cases of cyber fraud in Moscow tripled in April.
