He has become one of the most famous names in Sweden. Anders Tegnell, epidemiologist at the Swedish Public Health Agency, is the face of the coronavirus strategy in the kingdom. And he now has fans. Some have had this “Mister Corona” tattooed on them.

At 32, Gustav Lloyd Agerblad is the first to take the plunge. Since Monday and after several hours of work in a tattoo parlor in Stockholm, he sports on his left arm the grave mine of Anders Tegnell. "I love having tattoos that mean something to me and this Covid-19 will be part of my life forever," he told AFP. "So I wanted to have the Swedish face of the crisis on my arm."

"I did it spontaneously"

The young man indicates having had this idea after an Instagram message posted by his tattoo artist, Zashay Tastas, in which he showed the portrait of the epidemiologist. "I drew people whose profile I liked, and (Anders Tegnell) is one of them, and I did it spontaneously", underlines Zashay Tastas.

Gustav and his tattoo artist then say they were surprised by the enthusiasm of the local and international press - many of whom came to film on Monday the last ink injections that will perfect this tattoo with the false airs of homage.

Facebook groups in his honor

In Sweden, unlike other European countries, the containment of the population is not topical to stem the epidemic. The government is appealing to good citizenship, asking everyone to "take responsibility" and follow the health recommendations issued by the Public Health Agency.

Anders Tegnell is responsible for reporting to the press almost daily, a habit taken in March. With his firm but calm and reassuring tone, he is often presented as unfazed by critics. Its popularity, in any case, continues to grow in Sweden. A Facebook group called “We support Anders Tegnell & co” (“We support Anders Tegnell & co”) on Monday gathered some 85,000 people. Another, dubbed "Anders Tegnell Fan Club", already had over 29,000 members.
