After steadily increasing year after year, the wolf tribe in Värmland reached their peak in the winter of 2014-2015.

Since then, the curve has turned downwards, and the trend is the same even in the winter inventory.

- It's a slight downturn, yes. The number of districts that affect the county has decreased from 27 to 25, says Maria Falkevik at the county administrative board.

Unevenly distributed

But the big change is not the reduction in the number of reves, but the distribution of wolveroves across the county.

- The stem is unevenly distributed. It is dense with reefs in some parts of the county and sparse in other parts.

In a large area between the Klarälven river and the border with Dalarna, it is not only sparse on the wolf but completely empty.

- We tracked wolves there last fall, but then we won't find them again. And it's not like we haven't looked, says Maria Falkevik.

So you see traces but then they disappear again?

- Yes.

High turnover on wolf

Sales on wolves are generally high. Re-marking pairs disappear before they have had puppies, and the number of reefs with family groups is decreasing.

According to Maria Falkevik, it is not primarily the reduction of the wolf strain that is noteworthy, but the way it is reduced.

- It was intended that the wolf strain would decrease in Värmland as it increases in other parts of the country. But it would be reduced by license hunting, in a fair manner according to the management plan, and not by someone taking the liberty and doing this on their own.
