The United States Department of Defense published three videos of the United States Navy in 2004 and 2015 that capture "airborne phenomena" characterized as "unidentified." The agency reminded that the data was in the public domain as a result of "unauthorized publication in 2007 and 2017." Now, the military decided to make public the cadres in order to prove their authenticity.

“The Pentagon publishes these videos to dispel public misconceptions about the authenticity of the spreading personnel and the existence of anything other than these videos,” the US Department of Defense said in a statement.

It is also noted that the published records do not declassify information about the US military.

“Based on a thorough analysis, the ministry found that with the authorized publication of these unclassified video materials, no secret weapons or systems were shown (US Armed Forces. -  RT ),” the defense department said.

The Pentagon also added that "the aerial phenomena that can be observed on the video are still characterized as" unidentified ".

According to political analyst Alexander Asafov, the Pentagon decided right now to remind again of unidentified flying objects in order to “change the news agenda” in the country related to the spread of coronavirus.

“After all, topics about the unknown and the unknown always attract the widest attention of ordinary Americans. And then the residents of the United States will discuss not the circumstances of the American economy and the upcoming economic problems associated with unemployment, but the existence of aliens. This is quite a working tool, which the US Department of Defense once again decided to use, ”the expert said in an interview with RT.

Subject of attention

Experts recall that the Pentagon is not the first time to update the topic of unidentified flying objects. The U.S. military has been involved in UFO-related programs for decades.

Back in the early 1950s, the US Air Force began to implement the Blue Book project, which was designed to investigate incoming UFO reports and understand this phenomenon.

In 1952, after two American fighters tried to catch up with four luminous objects in the sky above Washington, President Harry Truman even called the Blue Book headquarters and made a request to find out the circumstances of the incident. Moreover, the Central Intelligence Agency organized its own investigation.

The Blue Book project was closed in 1969. The report on the results of his work noted that the appearance of unidentified flying objects can be explained by optical illusions or atmospheric phenomena, which did not pose any danger to the United States.

After this, the stories of eyewitnesses who allegedly observed “flying disks” over the Earth will repeatedly appear in the American media.

A new wave of such messages arose in 2017. At the same time, the US media reported on the Pentagon program, which was also involved in the study of UFOs. Later, the country's Ministry of Defense confirmed the existence of the Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program (AATIP), which existed from 2007 to 2012.

Last year, new details emerged about how the U.S. Defense Department is working on the topic of unidentified flying objects. So inIn November 2019, it was reported that the U.S. Army Command and Development Center for the development of ground transportation systems of the command confirmed the participation in a joint research project with To The Stars Academy (TTSA), known as an organization that studies UFOs and unidentified atmospheric phenomena.

It is noted that it was the representatives of the United States Army who initiated the joint project. In particular, Washington is interested in a TTSA study called ADAM, whose goal is to collect and analyze data on metamaterials obtained, as the company says, including during a UFO study.

According to the US Armed Forces, if To The Stars Academy can justify the expediency of using these materials for military purposes, then it will make sense to study them more carefully.

However, despite a statement by the defense department to close the program, Pentagon spokesman Christopher Sherwood admitted in May 2019 that the ministry is continuing to investigate reports of alien spacecraft.

"To defend the homeland and protect against the unexpected actions of our enemies, the Ministry will continue to investigate, as usual, reports of unidentified flying objects encountered by American military pilots," the New York Post quoted the Sherwood newspaper as saying.

According to him, the US Department of Defense always pays attention to "detecting any alien objects that are potentially threatening" the United States.

Later that same month, testimonies from U.S. Navy pilots began to appear in the American media, telling about meetings with UFOs and claiming that infrared surveillance devices did not record the operation of the engines or any exhausts.

Earlier, the U.S. Navy prepared special instructions for its pilots, establishing the procedure for providing information about incidents with unidentified air targets.

And in June, journalists connected the President of the United States, Donald Trump, to the topic of UFOs.

So, in an interview with ABC News, in response to a question about the increased number of testimonies by sea pilots about meetings with unidentified flying objects, the head of the White House stated his skepticism towards such statements.

“People say they see UFOs. Do I believe in that? Not especially, ”said the American leader.

"Justify spending from the budget"

However, Trump's skepticism about the existence of extraterrestrial unidentified flying objects is not widely shared in the Pentagon, says Alexander Asafov. According to him, the UFO theme has become a "real trend" in the US Department of Defense.

“The Pentagon is engaged in research related to UFOs, including the most paradoxical, and sometimes even absurd. The US military has been dealing with this topic for many decades and will continue to do this in order to justify its colossal spending from the budget, ”the analyst explained.

Asafov also said that against the backdrop of “US intentions to explore space and Trump’s desire to privatize the Moon,” the Pentagon will now develop these areas, focusing more on research related to unidentified flying objects.

“Space has become a new American dream. And the projects of the Ministry of Defense, the purpose of which is to study UFOs, fit in perfectly here, ”the expert said.

Vladimir Shapovalov, deputy director of the Institute of History and Politics at the Moscow State Pedagogical University, said in a conversation with RT that when the US begins to declare UFO research, it’s actually not about “some mythical unidentified objects”, but about quite real secret developments.

“In this way, Washington is able to hide the work on space military weapons, which can subsequently be directed against objects of other countries in space,” the analyst said.

A corresponding position is played by the corresponding member of the Academy of Military Sciences, political analyst Sergei Sudakov. According to him, the topic of UFOs has always been a priority of the Pentagon "as a cover for more serious and secret research."

“All this is done solely in order to divert to the side the special services of other states, which are closely following the developments that are currently available in the United States. Moreover, Washington is now aiming at space exploration, which requires the creation of new types of aircraft and engines for them, new systems of movement in space, ”the expert said in an interview with RT.

Sudakov also connects the actualization of the topic of unidentified flying objects in the context of the spread of the coronavirus with the Pentagon’s desire to maintain its “huge defense budget”.

“After all, the consequences of a pandemic threaten to reduce spending on military needs. And to avoid such a scenario, the US military leadership raises the theme of UFOs, admitting a threat from them. Indeed, against such an informational background, it is easier for ordinary Americans to explain why in the crisis they give money not to them, but to the development and implementation of dubious programs, ”the analyst concluded.
