The German sports equipment manufacturer Adidas sees its sales of tap dancing soar, this product being very appreciated during the period of containment, he indicated Monday in margin of quarterly results in strong decline due to the coronavirus.

Sales of plastic tap shoes with the name "Adilette" and usually worn by the pools experienced a "three-digit" percentage increase in April.

"Probably because people think it's a great product to wear at home," said group boss Kasper Rorsted during a conference call.

This increase is to be compared to the average sales of this product in recent months, said a spokesperson for the group to AFP.

The group also reported "record sales" of yoga mats in the past quarter, reflecting a revival of this discipline practiced indoors.

These niche successes do not mask a 19% drop in overall sales from January to March, to 4.75 billion euros.

Overall, online shopping jumped 35%, and 55% in March, when the group had to close its stores in Europe and North America, while reopening them in China after a month of closure .

The group ultimately displays a net profit group share of 31 million euros at the end of March, down 95% over a year, and still refuses to give a forecast for the year.
