A total of 18,926 people have now been confirmed to be infected by the coronavirus, an increase of 286 compared to yesterday.

In the world, nearly three million people have been confirmed infected and about 200,000 have died in the suites of covid-19.

Thousands of available IVA sites

Right now, a total of 1,353 people are receiving, or have received, intensive care in Sweden. According to Johanna Sandwall, crisis management manager at the National Board of Health, there are 1,073 available IVA sites around the country.

- We still have a fairly uneven load across the country. But based on the National Board of Health's situation, intensive work is being done to distribute patients between regions to spread the burden, says Johanna Sandwall.

Sandwall adds that there is still a critical impact on protective equipment in some regions.

- What both we and the regions are experiencing as the most scarce resource right now are protective clothing of various kinds. We hope that this situation can be resolved soon, ”she says.

Half of the dead are over 85 years old

The National Board of Health, which is responsible for the official statistics on health, care and care and causes of death in Sweden, will now start publishing statistics on people who have died of covid-19. The statistics will include age distribution, regional distribution and underlying diseases.

- We can see that 90 percent of those who die are over 70 years old. And almost 50 percent are over 85, says Mona Heurgren, Head of Department at the National Board of Health and Welfare.

By April 23, approximately 1,700 cause of death certificates for covid-19 had been received. According to Mona Heurgren, the authority finds about 10 percent more deaths than has been found in the figures of the Public Health Authority.

- The big difference is that we also have cases that have not been laboratory-tested, but where the responsible physician has documented that it is a patient with covid-19, explains the Public Health Agency's Anders Wallensten.
