Research teams have found the body of a Nepalese guide who accompanied four South Koreans killed by an avalanche three months earlier in the Himalayas, Nepalese police announced on Saturday. A wall of snow had fallen on the group at about 3,200 meters above sea level near the Annapurna base camp on January 17, but the risks of avalanche and heavy snowfall had so far made it impossible a real research operation.

Police, who were able to return to the area on Friday, found the guide's body after spotting a bag emerging from the melting ice. Kaski District Police Chief Dan Bahadur was unable to say when searches would resume to find the other members of the group. “The snow is always very thick where we think the bodies are. We are still discussing what we are going to do, ”he said.

Thousands of mountaineers and hikers travel to Nepal every year, including the Annapurna region, which attracted more than 170,000 visitors in 2018.
